Azerbaijani Press Council declared seven racketeering publications â€“ <font color=red>LIST </font>

The council told APA that the agenda of the meeting included Azerbaijani Press Councilâ€™s report on the activity in 2009, decisions of the Press Council basing on the opinion of the Commission for Complaints, decisions basing on opinion of the Commission Combating Racketeering Journalism and admission to the Press Council. Members of the Management Board positively assessed the report on the work done by Azerbaijani Press Council in 2009. It was decided to present the report to media and public along with annexes and proposals in January, 2010.

Five applications on admission to the Press Council were considered. Following the discussions, the Aile hekimi, Birlik, Azerbayjan neshrleri magazines and Media ve Mulki Cemiyyet public union were admitted to the council. it was decided that the Yeni kheber newspaper may be admitted to the council after the monitoring of one-year publications of the newspaper.

Decisions were made basing on the opinions of the Commission for Complaints and Commission Combating Racketeering Journalism. Gundalik Baki, Zerbe, Tolerant Azerbayjan, Esas kheber, Dunya criminal, Guzgu newspapers and Mozalan magazine were declared racketeering publications. Bizim veten newspaper was warned and included into the black list of the council.

Discussions were held on the working plan of the Press Council for 2010. It was decided to classify the proposals concerning it and present to the Management Board by the first ten-day of January.

A number of publications that had been included into the black list appealed to the Council and said they changed their activity. Discussions were held to remove these publications from the black list. It was said that the problem will be regulated in line with the Press Councilâ€™s statute for determining racketeering publications.
