Moscow. Roman Agayev – APA. “I think that attending this kind of forums facilitates integration of media,” APA’s Director General Vusala Mahirgizi, who is attending the European and Asian Media Forum in Moscow, told journalists. Vusala Mahirgizi said CIS area was not unfamiliar for Azerbaijani media.
“We had been together for long years. At the time when mass media, internet media are developing and integration processes are going on, it delays the process of informing the society, when we get information about the developments in any country from the information agencies of the third countries. The correct information is always the one received from the first source. Therefore I consider that such forums are very important for us,” she said.

According to Vusala Mahirgizi, media has always needed exchange of views.
“Media is inside the politics, but at the same time media always needs exchange of views. For example, during such meetings we exchange views with the journalists from Armenia – the country, with which we have been at war for long years. In general, the discussions held with the mass media of CIS countries has a good feature – we can see how much we are ahead and how much we lag behind. Moreover, this kind of events helps establish partnership, exchange information, purchase and sale of photo and video materials via internet,” she said.

Vusala Mahirgizi does not agree to the views that Azerbaijani media is in pitiful state.
“A very good delegation from Azerbaijan is attending the forum. The delegation consists of heads and representatives of TV channels, agencies and Russian-language media. Unlike most CIS countries internet media has developed rapidly in Azerbaijan. At the same time, we also observe the state of freedom of speech in such meetings. The conclusion we have reached is that Azerbaijan even leaves behind other CIS countries in the issue of freedom of speech. We may even compete with other countries in this field as well. It would be faulty comparison if we were compared with France or England. We can be compared with the countries in CIS space that passed the same way of development. However, of course, if we compare ourselves with Russian media, we need to learn much from it”.
