Press Council hosts meeting with Council of Europe experts

Baku â€“ APA. Experts of the Council of Europe Manuel Lukbert and David Goldberg held a meeting at the Azerbaijan Press Council in Baku to evaluate programs carried out in Azerbaijan by the Council of Europe and European Commission on freedoms of expression, information and media, the Press Council told APA.

PC vice chairman Umid Rahimoglu focused on the Councilâ€™s role in the settlement of media-government and media-community relations. Rahimoglu said the organization was carrying out a number of projects in several spheres and added that working principles of the Council enabled them to provide more comprehensive activity. The European experts gave details of their mission and said their visit aims to evaluate implementation of the joint program carried out by the European Commission and Council of Europe in the South Caucasus and Moldova on freedoms of expression, information and media. The guests said they were researching necessary work to be done for the development of media in these countries in future.

Participants of the meeting held discussions over the freedoms of speech and media, existing difficulties and positive sides.
