Maersk launches new rail-sea service through Azerbaijan

A.P. Moller – Maersk (Maersk) has launched a new rail-sea service connecting Asia to Europe through Central Asia, APA-Economics reports citing the company.

The latest offering from the Danish giants departs from various locations in China and travels through Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Romania,

"After passing through the border of Khorgos between China and Kazakhstan, containers arrive by rail at the station of Aktau, where they are loaded on a barge to Baku, Azerbaijan. From there, boxes are railed to APM Terminals (APMT) Poti, Georgia, where they are loaded on a feeder's vessel to Constanta Romania. The cargo is then railed to various destinations across Europe."

Transit time from China to Romania is said to take 40 days.
