“Last year, certain difficulties were observed in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic in terms of water supply," Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, Shahin Mustafayev, said at a meeting on water supply in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, APA reports.
"Specifically, over the past year, the volume of water entering the two main reservoirs—the Arpachay Reservoir with a capacity of 150 million cubic meters and the Heydar Aliyev Reservoir with a capacity of 100 million cubic meters—has decreased by approximately half, by more than 200 million cubic meters, compared to the same period in 2024. In line with your instructions, the issue of efficient use of water resources and sustainable water supply for the population of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic has been thoroughly discussed within the framework of the Commission’s activities. A preliminary plan of measures aimed at fundamentally resolving the problems has been prepared and will be submitted for your consideration. At the same time, today’s meeting held under your leadership on drinking water supply and the improvement of wastewater and stormwater systems in the city of Baku and the Absheron Peninsula will make a special contribution to the efficient use of water resources and to improving the sustainable provision of the population with quality drinking water and sanitation services," he said.
