“There has been no action for the payment of debts over two years although warnings and notices were sent to Azersu. The unpaid debts have posed financial difficulties for the power distribution company. Power supply will be cut off from 03.00 pm on February 16,” said Sumgait Power Networks (Sumqayitelektrikshebeke).
As at January 31, 2009 Azersu’s accrued electricity arrears stood at AZN 47 101 640 (accumulated since October 1, 2002). Unpaid electricity bills added AZN 12 376 200 in 2007, AZN 8 646 650 in 2008 and AZN 510 160 in January, 2009 to the arrears.
The power cut would potentially create problems with pumping drinking and technical water to customers in Baku and Sumgait, two largest cities of the country.
Sumqayitelektrikshebeke said Azersu will bear the responsibility for the expected water supply cut in Baku and Sumgait
