Baku - APA-Economics. Within weeks of hearing that metro fares had reached the maximum sustainable level, Moscow commuters learned that a planned price hike is due as usual on Jan. 1, The Moscow News reported.

The new fare is set to be 28 roubles for a single ticket, up from the current 26, RIA Novosti reported.

And that will have a knock-on effect on all ticket prices, with the most expensive 365-day unlimited pass going up to 11,430 roubles ($370) from this year’s 9,920 roubles ($321).

It’s not just Metro users who will be affected, with street transport fares also set to rise.

Pre-purchased tickets on bus, trams and trolleybuses will go up from 24 roubles to 25, but tickets bought from the driver will still cost the current 28 roubles.

But there is still hope for a reprieve – the figures will not be officially approved until Dec. 23 when they will be put in front of a meeting headed by deputy mayor of Moscow Yury Roslyak.

After that, next year’s tariffs would go to mayor Sergei Sobyanin for final approval.
