Baku. Aynur Veliyeva - APA-ECONOMICS. At the end of 2009, the Internet penetration rate has exceeded 40% in Azerbaijan, said Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov.

The sharp rise in penetration is related to the fact that access to the Internet by any means (through a computer or mobile phone) is defined as internet penetration in accordance with the standards of the International Telecommunication Union.

According to him, the ministry took several measures for the development of the Internet, allowing internet access speed to increase by 25%, and prices for the Internet service to reduce by nearly 5-fold.

"Azerbaijan has increased the export capacity of Internet services in the region. Iran also entered the list of countries to which we export the internet. Today payments are made over the Internet, online advertising, e-commerce is developing, personal services are paid online, online stores are being opened. In short, an independent internet sector is looming in our economy,” he added.
