Baku. Shahriyar Alizade – APA. Baku Court of Grave Crimes completed Sept. 19 the hearing on the case of those accused of the bus accident involving Austrian athletes in Baku 2015.
According to the verdict, Vali Ahmadov was deprived of the right to drive for 3 years and sentenced to 3 years in prison, Huseyn Salamov was deprived of the right to hold positions in the state and local self-governing bodies for 3 years and sentenced to 4 years in prison, and Elchin Hasanov was deprived of the right to hold positions in the state and local self-governing bodies for 2 years and sentenced to 4 years in prison.
Farid Amiraslanov, who was released on bail, was sentenced to two years, eleven months and 28 days of conditional imprisonment. He must serve a year and six months of probation. The charges against Huseyn Salamov were not confirmed. The court reclassified the charges on article #308 (abuse of power) into 314 (negligence). He will serve his sentence in a minimum security prison.
Earlier, the public prosecutor had asked the court to sentence Vali Ahmadov to 3-year-imprisonment in a minimum security prison, Huseyn Salamov and Elchin Hasanov, each of them to 7-year-imprisonment, and Farid Amiraslanov to 5-year-imprisonment in a minimum security prison.
On 11 June 2015, the Austrian synchronized swimmers – Vanessa Sahinovic and Luna Pajer got in a traffic accident on the territory of the transport depot in the Baku Athletes’ Village, created for the first European Games. Vali Ahmadov, whose shuttle bus struck the Austrian athletes in Baku, the deputy head of the State Road Traffic Service Huseyn Salamov and camera operator of "Safe City Service" Elchin Hasanov, adviser in Passenger transportation Department of the State Road Transport Service Farid Amiraslanov are accused of the accident.
Ahmadov had faced charges under Article #263.1 (infringement of traffic rules and operation of vehicles by the person managing automobile, tram or other mechanical vehicle committed on imprudence entailed causing of less serious or minor serious harm to health of a victim) Salmanov and Hasanov under the Article #308 (abusing powers), Amiraslanov under the Article #314 (negligence) of the Criminal Code. Unlike the others, Amiraslanov had been released on bail.
