Leyla Yunus: I am grateful to President Ilham Aliyev for our release - <span style="color: red;">UPDATED

Baku. Shahriyar Alizade – APA. The Baku Court of Appeal on Friday held a hearing on the appeal of Leyla and Arif Yunus.

Addressing the hearing, lawyer Elchin Sadigov said that Leyla and Arif Yunus are suffering from several diseases, treatment of which is possible only in a hospital in Berlin.

Sadigov said that they are willing to go to the hospital, accompanied by the staff of the Azerbaijani embassy and consulate in Berlin.

Arif Yunus, in his speech, said he has a tumor on his head, but Azerbaijani doctors can not determine the cause of its origin, noting that he has to go to Berlin to undergo surgery.

Leyla Yunus, addressing the hearing, said that her and her husband’s life is in danger.

“If we were not released, one of us would not be alive. I am grateful to President Ilham Aliyev for our release. We were to undergo immediate treatment in January”, she added.

The court dismissed the appeal.

The lawyer said they will file a cassation appeal against the decision of the Baku Court of Appeal.

Leyla and Arif Yunus have appealed to the Yasamal district court, seeking permission to temporarily leave Azerbaijan for treatment. The court dismissed the appeal and they lodged an appeal against the decision.
