The working group has been also functioning before the cooperation with the Council of Europe, Jafaroglu said, adding the group is conducting negotiations both with the Presidential Administration and Prosecutor’s Office.
She noted that the working group shouldn’t be shut down. “Helping a citizen is commendable. The group includes experienced human rights defenders. 50 people were assisted within a year. Several people were released from prison, sentences of some were reduced, and those removed from the house were returned to houses thanks to the measures taken by the group. We made a mistake of not informing the Secretary-General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland about the work done.”
Jagland stated yesterday that the Council of Europe left the Joint Working Group on human rights issues in Azerbaijan.
