Baku. Hafiz Heydarov – APA. Azerbaijan’s well-known footballer Alekber Mammadov found dead at his home.
According to Sabail District Police Office, the police received an information that a body of a man dead a few days ago was found in one of the apartments where the 39th Police Department is located. Employees of Ministry of Emergency Situations and law-enforcement agencies leaved for the scene.
The investigation revealed that the dead man is 84 year-old Alekber Mammadov. According to initial probability, he dead 3 days ago. No one was aware of his death as there was no one at home.
Police also said that A. Mammadov was one of well-known Azerbaijani footballers. He played in Baku’s Neftyanik, Moscow’s Dinamo teams. He played in 185 matches of the USSR Supreme League, kicked 56 goals. He was the USSR champion in 1954, 1955, 1957 and 1959. He played as a member of USSR national team in 4 matches in 1958-59. He is participants of qualifying matches for European championship in 1960.
He also was coach of Neftyanik team and Azerbaijan’s national team.
He was conferred on honorary title “Honored Master of Sport of the USSR” in 1960 and “honored Coach of the USSR” in 1990.
