According to him, the incident took place on October 16 near Rome.
“I have been engaged in business in Azerbaijan for 20 years. We have a number of trucks with license plate number and by those trucks we carry goods from Azerbaijan to world countries,” he noted.
The Turkish businessman said a truck, 22 tons of nuts worth of $160.000 on board left from Zagatala for Italy ten days ago. “The truck, crossing through Georgia-Turkey and by sea, reached Italy in a few days. On October 16, the truck belonging to Azerbaijan was attacked by armed men in masks on the highway near Rome. They beat truck’s driver Nejati Serin, tied his hands and legs and left him on the seashore. The attackers then hijacked the truck with the luggage inside. They threw out the GPS device inside the truck. The injured driver survived miraculously. Police found him and questioned him. Unfortunately, Italian police have not managed to find either the assaulters or the hijacked truck. They seem to be unwilling to find the car. Considering the incident took place on a highway with a lot of security cameras, police should have trouble finding the criminals. We have appealed to both the Italian embassy in Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijani embassy in Italy but there is no outcome at the moment,” he said.
Koyugolge has resorted to the Azerbaijani side for help.
“We ask the Azerbaijani side for help. The truck hijacked in Italy belongs to Azerbaijan. If state authorities take care of this problem, Italian policy will take necessary actions to find the criminals,” he completed.
