Presidential aide: Israel took Azerbaijan's messages seriously, further progress on 'Armenian genocide' issue was prevented

The issue of recognizing the 1915 events as the "Armenian genocide" in Israel seriously concerned Azerbaijan, as the interests of brotherly Türkiye have always been a priority for Azerbaijan and this issue has always been a "red line" for the country, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmat Hajiyev told Haber Global.

"As soon as this issue emerged, Azerbaijan launched intensive diplomatic efforts on the instructions of Mr. President. We also conveyed our messages to the Israeli side that the adoption of such a decision would, first of all, be unfair, would not reflect historical reality, and we did not consider its adoption appropriate. The positive aspect is that the Israeli side took Azerbaijan's messages seriously. We believe that further progress on this issue was prevented. In our opinion, this would in no way have reflected historical reality and would have been a completely unjust step," Hikmat Hajiyev emphasized.

He noted that where Türkiye is absent, Azerbaijan is present, and where Azerbaijan is absent, Türkiye is present.

"We respond decisively to every step taken against the interests of our countries, and we will continue to do so," Hikmat Hajiyev added.

Note that the Israeli government has halted the process of advancing the initiative to recognize the 1915 events involving Armenians as the "Armenian genocide." Following pressure from Azerbaijan, the issue of recognizing the "Armenian genocide" was removed from the agenda of the Israeli Knesset.
