Switzerland welcomes the progress achieved in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia and believes that lasting peace is now within reach, Swiss Federal Councillor, Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, and OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Ignazio Cassis said at a joint press conference with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, APA reports.
Ignazio Cassis stated that nearly a year after the peace agreement was initialed, the parties have come very close to signing the final agreement.
"Switzerland welcomes the progress achieved towards peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Nearly a year after the peace agreement was initialed, lasting peace is now within reach. As Switzerland, we are proud to make even a modest contribution to the steps taken along this path. I encourage my Azerbaijani counterpart to continue efforts that will make it possible to sign the agreement. This will be an important step toward reconciliation and stability for the peoples of both countries and the region as a whole," he stressed.
The minister noted that Switzerland remains ready to continue supporting the peace process should the parties request it.
"Switzerland is ready to support the process whenever needed and if the parties so wish. Our country has many years of experience in confidence-building in the South Caucasus, and we remain ready to continue contributing in this area," Ignazio Cassis added.
