We expect the provision in Armenia's Constitution that contains territorial claims against Azerbaijan and Türkiye to be removed, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, Hikmat Hajiyev, told Haber Global.

"A process to adopt a new Constitution will begin in Armenia soon. These are the signals we have received in this regard. A referendum may be held. Once the territorial claims against Azerbaijan are removed from the preamble of Armenia's Constitution, we see no obstacle to signing the final peace agreement," Hikmat Hajiyev stressed.

The Presidential Assistant noted that, nevertheless, there is de facto peace in the region.

Recall that Armenia's Declaration of Independence contains territorial claims against Azerbaijan. The Declaration of Independence includes a provision on the necessity of unifying the former Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia. Azerbaijan objects to this and has made constitutional amendments in Armenia a condition for signing a peace agreement.
