Two Azerbaijani citizens have been detained on a ship carrying drugs that departed from Istanbul for Sierra Leone, according to the the Turkish Ministry of Interior, APA’s Türkiye correspondent reports.
Ministry noted that during an operation conducted by Spanish and French security forces near the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean on October 4, approximately 4 tons of cocaine were seized from a Tanzanian-flagged ship named RAS. A total of 10 individuals were detained during the operation, including 7 Turkish, 2 Azerbaijani, and 1 Dutch citizen.
Additionally, Ministry stated that the ship departed from Istanbul on July 28. If the operation had not been successful, the ship was to head to Egypt.
