Trial begins for those accused of spying for France

The trial of those accused of spying for France begins, APA reports.

The preliminary investigation of the criminal case conducted by the State Security Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan against Martin Ryan, who was arrested on charges of spying for France, has been completed.

The case has been sent to the Baku Grave Crimes Court for consideration. Judge Elmin Rustamov will preside over the trial.

Noted that Martin Ryan and others were arrested on December 4, 2023. Martin Ryan, the general director of “Merkorama” LLC, has been charged with espionage. According to the charge, Martin Ryan was used as an agent-spy by employees of the French DGES (Directorate-General for External Security), who recruited him for secret cooperation and later declared him “persona non-grata” and expelled from Baku.

It has become known that, along with Martin Ryan, Azad Mammadli, a citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan, will be tried on charges of treason in the same criminal case.

As is known, Bernard Emier, the head of the French Directorate-General for External Security (DGES), was dismissed from his post on December 20, 2023, following the exposure of a large spy network and service failures.
