As a result of the cooperation of the border ships of the Coast Guard of the State Border Service of Azerbaijan (SBS), coastal control units and technical observation points, on September 18, a large amount of tobacco products were prevented from being smuggled from the Islamic Republic of Iran to the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the central direction of the Caspian Sea, Press Center of State Border Service informed APA.
In connection with the search for a vessel that violated the border and navigation regime in the territorial waters of the Republic of Azerbaijan of the Caspian Sea, 3 (three) "Yamaha-250" motor-powered speedboats and 117 (one hundred and seventeen) suspicious packages on the water were identified as a result of search measures carried out by border ships equipped with modern night vision and surveillance systems, which are guarding the state border and oil and gas infrastructure and as a result of the closure of the coastline.
146,790 (one hundred and forty-six thousand seven hundred and ninety) boxes of tobacco products worth approximately AZN 300,000 were found and seized during inspection of the vessel and packages.
Operational-investigative measures are ongoing.
