Ukrainian Defence Forces have reportedly struck the Omsk Kauchuk chemical plant in Russia’s city of Omsk, triggering a major fire, APA reports, citing Russian and Ukrainian Telegram channels.
According to the Exilenova+ channel, the drone attack hit an area housing the plant’s D-3 and D-5 units. The D-3 unit produces methyl tert-butyl ether.
The plant is located more than 2,500 kilometres from Ukraine, according to the reports.
Omsk Kauchuk specialises in synthetic rubber, phenol, acetone and other chemical products. Its daily production capacity is reportedly around 2,000 tonnes.
The reports said synthetic polymers produced at the facility are used in rubber products, while specialised polymer binders are used to manufacture solid rocket fuel for Iskander-M, Topol-M and Yars missile systems.
The information provided contained no official comment from Russian authorities.
An Ozon logistics warehouse in Omsk was also reportedly struck.
