Former speaker of Parliament to be buried tomorrow

Baku. Shahriyar Alizadeh – APA. Former speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament, professor Murtuz Alasgarov, who died today in his summer house in Mardakan from long-term illness, will be buried tomorrow, relatives of the deceased told APA. The funeral ceremony will be held in the Cultural Center named after Shahriyar. The place of his burial hasn’t been determined yet.

Famous Azerbaijani public figure, former speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament Murtuz Alasgarov died at the age of 84. Alasgarov died today in Baku after suffering from long-term illness.

Murtuz Alasgarov was born in Ganja on September 20, 1928. He graduated the law department of Azerbaijan State University. He has been worked as a head teacher in law department of Azerbaijan State University, docent and from 1957 in the post of chief of law department. He was a rector of Baku State University from 1993-1996. He became the head of the university’s constitutional law department in 1965.

He graduated from Azerbaijan Sate University. He is a Doctor of Science, professor and an honored Republic’s legislator. He was awarded with “Independence” order, “Honor certificate of President of Republic of Azerbaijan”, also “Sodrujestvo” order of CIS and “Friendship” order of Russian Federation.

He was deputy of the first and second convocations of Azerbaijani Parliament, worked in post of speaker of the parliament from October 16, 1996 till December 2, 2005.

He was elected deputy on November 6, 2011. He was member of the Parliament’s permanent commission on Legal policy and state-building, as well as member of Azerbaijan-France, Azerbaijan-Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan-Turkey inter-parliamentary relations working groups.
