Floods kill 2 in Iran’s East Azarbaijan province

Baku-APA. At least two people have been killed and many more have been injured in flash floods in the northwestern Iranian province of East Azerbaijan, APA reports quoting Press TV.

On Monday and Tuesday, flooding triggered by heavy downpours affected Tabriz, the capital of East Azarbaijan province, and the city of Bostanabad as well as some villages in the province and destroyed about 60 houses.

According to a statement issued by the Tabriz governor’s office, the city suffered losses of almost $400,000 due to the flooding, IRIB reported.

The statement said that the flood damaged crops in Tabriz and other cities of East Azarbaijan province.

Torrential rain and unrelenting hail also caused floods in Khalkhal in Ardabil province.

The flash floods have forced scores of families from their homes.

Meteorologists have warned of a high probability of more floods in northwestern Iran in the coming days.
