Baku-APA. Switzerland on Wednesday closed its embassy in Damascus, citing reasons of security, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
The closure, said the Swiss government on its official website, was expected to be temporary.
Last August, the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) called the Swiss ambassador back to Bern for consultations.
Furthermore, since November 2011, the FDFA has been calling upon Swiss citizens in Syria to leave the country immediately.
A total of 180 Swiss citizens have registered with the embassy. The FDFA said, of those registered, some 150 still remain in the county. A majority of them hold dual nationality.
