Chairman of Veterans Association arrested in Azerbaijan

Press service of the General Prosecutorâ€™s Office told APA that resident of Baku city addressed the Anti-Corruption Department under General Prosecutor that the chairman of the board of the (Mubariz) War Veterans Association Seymur Shirinov demanded bribe in amount of 2000 AZN for estimating the length of service and determining degree of disability.

As a result of the operational procedures Shirinov was detained at the crime scene by the employees of the Anti-Corruption Department under General Prosecutor while taking a bribe in amount of 2000 AZN in the building of organization in Baku on February 17, 2012. Shirinov presented these moneys to employees of the prosecutor office and they drew up a statement of the case with participation of the witnesses.

A criminal case was launched under article 311.1 of the Criminal Code (bribe taking). During a search in Shirinovâ€™s apartment five labor books, copies of identity cards, six â€œWar Veteranâ€ certificates, 2 certificates of membership of â€œMubarizâ€ War Veterans Association and the other documents were found and seized.

Shirinov was arrested on bribery charges under the relevant article of the Criminal Code.
