Causes of vessel explosion killing four determined

Baku. Hafiz Heydarov – APA. Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan issued a statement on explosion occurred in a shipyard on the Caspian Sea, APA reports quoting the ministry’s website. An explosion causing a fire occurred in the PTS vessel “Baligchi” in the coasts of Caspian Sea in the territory of Khatai district of Baku. all flammable constructions burnt down in the area of 8 sq.m, command bridge and deck were destroyed by explosion wave. The fire was extinguished at 14.10.

Captain Haji Hasan Khanputayev, born in 1964, sailor Maarif Bayzade Aghayev, born in 1965, engineere Shaib Mirza Beydullayev, born in 1966 and welder Mehman Jamil Hajiyev, born in 1960, were killed during the accident. Firefighters could save a part of the vessel.

According to the preliminary version, violation of security rules during the welding work caused explosion and fire. The incident is investigated by the relevant organizations.

Spokesman for the Azerbaijan’s State Marine Administration Araslan Aliyev told APA that the vessel belongs to Azerbaijan. It was held a lease. The explosion was caused by a gas leak during the welding. Now owner and lease holder are identified.

Previously the State Marine Administration reported that the vessel belonged to Kazakhstan.
