Ahmad Vahidi: Iran will not retreat from its interests in the Persian Gulf

Vahidi speaking in the first International Persian Gulf Oceanography Conference said that the countries in the Persian Gulf region have experienced numerous wars caused by the hegemonic policies of Western powers over the past 30 years. â€œPersian Gulf plays a significant role in different aspects including military, economic, scientific and cultural perspectivesâ€. He stressed existence of abundant islands in Persian Gulf has given a particular importance to the Persian Gulf, adding western countries have tried to shape the Persian Gulf as a security region, but the region should be considered as an economic one. Vahidi referred to existence of military forces and war ships in Persian Gulf, noting the region has turned to be a reservoir of ammunition and that injustice has dominated Persian Gulf by the U.S. and European countries. He added that â€œthe enemies are not capable of undermining Iran’s vital role in regional and international developments because the Islamic Republic will not abandon its interests in the Persian Gulfâ€.
