Serious activeness is observed in two more mud volcanoes located in Azerbaijan

Baku. Kamala Guliyeva â€“ APA. Eruption in Shikhzayirli mud volcano in Gobustan region has stopped. Currently, gas is erupting form the volcanoâ€™s vent, 1.5 m-altitude fire is observed. Engineer of mud volcanism department of the Geology Institute of ANAS Arif Huseynov told APA that at present, there are a lot of volcanic emissions in the crater of the volcano: â€œEruption of volcano threatened the residents a little. If there were houses near volcanoâ€™s crater, then it might create serious danger. Fortunately, residential houses are awayâ€.

Huseynov said that Shikhzayirli mud volcano is located 639 m above the sea level and last time it erupted in 2011: â€œWe will conduct measurement and prepare schematic map of the area. Reasons of activation of the volcano will be investigated as well. The volcano erupted 10 years ago. It gathered internal energy within this period. And this energy had to go out. But eruption of mud volcano may be associated with seismic activityâ€.

To him, in general, there are more than 300 mud volcanoes in Azerbaijan. And nearly 30 of them are active. 2-3 volcanoes erupt in Azerbaijan within a year.

Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources issued a statement in connection with the eruption of mud volcano. Press service of the Minsi8try told APA that experts of the Ministryâ€™s Department of Conservation of Biodiversity and. Development of Specially Protected Nature Areas and Geological Exploration Service conducted investigation in relation to the volcano erupted yesterday, at 11.20. The investigations determine that as a result of the eruption, a lot of volcanic ejection of lava run to surrounding areas and 40-50 sm cracks occurred as a rest of the explosion. Altitude of the lava reached 3 m in some areas. The altitude of the fire was 60-70 m during the eruption, the heat was felt in 3-km distance. Related bodies control the area within a day. At present, gas is erupting from different parts of the volcano, altitude of the fire reaches 2 m.

The Ministryâ€™s information says that this time the eruption in Shikhzayirli mud volcano was stronger than the eruption took place 6-7 years ago. Currently, serious activeness is observed also in Dashgil and Ayrantoken mud volcanoes located in Alat settlement too.
