Azerbaijani Prosecutor General’s Office made official statement on Elvin Asgarovâ€™s death

Baku. Hafiz Heydarov â€“ APA. Azerbaijani Prosecutor General’s Office disseminated official information on the death of Elvin Asgarov, APA reports quoting press service of Prosecutor General’s Office.

Over the past several days the mass media entities published and distributed the false articles, targeted to confusion of the public opinion and distorting the true essence of the events, about the incident that took place between police officers and a group of persons in Nizami district. Owing to the files collected during the preliminary investigation, it was determined that on January 13, 2011, at about 01.00 AM Baku residents Ganiyev Anar, Elvin Askerov and others disputed drunk by violating the public order near the "Neon" wedding palace. Law-enforcement officers of the policeâ€™s quick response regiment of the Ministry of Interior Affairs, who was carrying out their duties on maintaining the public order and public security in that area, came up to the troublemakers, asked them to observe the order and show their documents. Having bidden defiance to police officersâ€™ legal requirements they started running away from the site of occurrence. At that moment, with the folding knife Elvin Askerov inflicted bodily injuries to the police officers Elchin Mutallimov Zulfiqar Suleimanov, who were pursuing him. After this he several times fell onto the ground but he kept on getting up and trying to escape from the cite of occurrence, despite his detention he was continued resisting the police officers and managed to stab one of the police officers â€“ Sabuhi Aghayev who came up to help.

For the purpose of providing the medical care, injured police officers were taken in the service car to the emergency station # 6, situated in that district, and Elvin Askerov was taken to the Police Department # 24. While being in the police department, level of health of the last man changed for the worse and at 01:15 AM he was delivered in the ambulance to the Municipal Clinic Hospital # 3. However, despite providing the lasting first medical aid, he died.

According to this fact, Prosecutor’s Office of Nizami District filed a suit on the Article 315.2 of the Criminal Code, the investigation is underway. The staffers of prosecutor’s offices of Nizami district and of Baku city inspected cite of occurrence and took from there the blood samples and a crime instrument â€“ knife.

The relevant forensic medical examination has been appointed for the purpose of defining the causes of Elvin Asgarovâ€˜s death, severity of body injuries, and the mechanisms of the origin. At the present time, prosecutor’s office investigates the circumstances, put forward by victimâ€™s parents, defines the witnesses, takes their testimony, as well as performs other necessary investigative actions.

Of note, the legal assessment of the actions of persons who committed the crime will be provided on the basis of collected evidence, full, comprehensive, and objective investigation of the case.
