Human rights defender: â€œMovsum Samadov and Dayanat Samadov noted that they were not torturedâ€

Baku. Hafiz Heydarov - APA. Chief of Azerbaijani Committee against Torture Elchin Behbudov met with arrested leader of Islamic Party of Azerbaijan (IPA) Movsum Samadov, Behbudov told APA. He said that the accused person had been detained at Azerbaijani Interior Ministry’s Department on Combating Organized Criminality. Speaking about todayâ€™s meeting with Movsum Samadov and Dayanat Samadov, human rights defender noted that the accused men did not complaint about the detention condition: â€œNevertheless, they refuse the pretensions advanced against themâ€.

Moreover, Behbudov said that criminal case on Movsum Samadov had not been launched yet: â€œMovsum Samadov was arrested in an administrative form. Criminal case has been launched on Dayanat Samadov under the article on illegal storage of armsâ€.

Note that, on January 7, leader of Islamic Party of Azerbaijan (IPA) Movsum Samadov, party activist Elchin Hasanov and his driver Mirhuseyn Kazimov were detained. Under the decision of Binagadi District Court, they were sentenced to 10 days of imprisonment.

Recently, Azerbaijani Interior Ministry and Prosecutorâ€™s Office issued a joint statement on the arrest of the leader of Islamic Party of Azerbaijan (IPA) Movsum Samadovâ€™s cousin Dayanat Samadov. The statement reads that during the search operations conducted by officers of the Azerbaijani Interior Ministryâ€™s department on combating organized criminality, battle grenades and bullets for the machine-gun were revealed at home of Dayanat Samadov and at the shop where he works. Azerbaijani Prosecutorâ€™s Office has launched a criminal case over the fact in accordance with Article 228 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan (illegal purchase and possession of firearms), investigation is conducted.

At Dayanat Samadovâ€™s home and utility room in the courtyard were found two submachine guns â€œKalashnikovâ€, 60 bullets for submachine gun, 20 hand grenades "F-1", 4 cartridges for bullets. And at Firdovsi Mammadrzayevâ€™s home and greenhouse his home were found 010 hand grenades "F-1", 40 bullets for submachine gun and one cartridge for bullets.

Currently, investigative and operative search actions are underway.
