Heavy hail and shower break roofs, windows, spoil grain fields in Azerbaijanâ€™s Aghdash region

First deputy head of Aghdash region executive power, chairman of the regionâ€™s emergency situations commission Javid Osmanov told APAâ€™s local bureau that hail caused serious damage to Aghdash, Leki settlement, Goshagovag, Shakili, Korarkh, Erebojagi villages. Hailstones of 4-6cm in diameter broke the roofs, windows of the houses, spoilt fruits and vegetables, unreaped grain fields.

Strong shower following the hail paralyzed life in the region. M. Isayev, S. Vurgun, Babek, 20 Yanvar streets of Aghdash, about 300 houses have been flooded. The regionâ€™s hygiene and epidemiology center, veterinary department, fire fighting unit, education department, gas supply department, several secondary schools and kindergartens have been flooded.

Osmanov said over 20 houses had collapsed in Aghdash, Goshagovag and Shakili villages as a result of hail and flood. Yukhari Shirvan canal passing through Shakili and Goshagovag villages faced the threat of flooding.

The old residents of the region say it had not hailed or rained in Aghdash so in the past 50 years. The Ministry of Emergency Situations has been informed about the natural disaster.

The staff of the regionâ€™s departments and organizations has been involved, heavy equipment, pumps brought to the region. Measures are being taken to restore the electricity supply and telephone lines. The appeals of the citizens suffered as a result of the natural disaster are being considered, the damage is being assessed.
