"The creation of local products in the digital sphere in Azerbaijan and the strengthening of our digital sovereignty have been identified as one of the main priorities in the President’s information security strategy," said Tural Mammadov, head of department at the Special Communication and Information Security State Service (SCISSS), during an event in Baku dedicated to cybersecurity, APA-Economics reports.
He noted that the importance of developing local products and digital sovereignty once again became evident during the incident that occurred just two days ago:
“In particular, it would be incorrect to evaluate the shutdown of more than 9,000 national resources solely as a ‘Cloudflare incident’. This is an issue of foreign dependency in the private sector and digital sovereignty. A large portion of the affected resources were media platforms, which points to the need to reassess our readiness for information warfare.”
He added that implementing local solutions is not cheap and requires significant financial resources:
“However, the successful policies pursued by our state and the strategy of the Special Communication and Information Security State Service aim to ensure that security capabilities are addressed locally as much as possible, giving priority to local protection. This is one of our key strategic directions. Over the past three years, several government agencies have been prevented from routing traffic to foreign providers like Cloudflare for filtering abroad; instead, their protection has been implemented through the Azstate network.”
