You have to be willing to reinvent yourself to succeed, said Netflix co-founder and first CEO Mark Randolph, at the "INMerge" Innovation Summit in Baku, APA-Economics reports.
According to him, although the company generated $5 million in revenue in the first years of its existence, it recorded a loss of $50 million. Although Netflix saw a way out in cooperation with Blockbuster, this offer was rejected: "We offered them to buy the company for $50 million. But Blockbuster did not understand the value of this opportunity and chose competition."
Randolph said that Netflix overcame difficulties by laying off employees, cutting costs and persevering: "We eventually did an IPO, overtook Blockbuster in revenue, and as a result, that giant company went bankrupt."
In his speech, he expressed the main lesson of successful business as follows: "If you are not ready to reshape and change your success, others will be ready to disrupt your business."
