According to the report, the injecting drug use rate in Azerbaijan is 5.2 per cent. This indicator is also high in Russia (2.3 per cent), Georgia (1.3 per cent), Canada (1.3 per cent), Moldova (1.2 per cent) and Belarus (1.1 per cent).
Azerbaijan is also included in the list of countries with high levels of use of opioids, especially heroin and opium. The fight against use of such drugs in Central Asia and South Caucasus remains as main task. 1.5 per cent of the adult population of Azerbaijan, 1.36 per cent of Georgian and 1 percent of Kazak population actively use heroin and opium.
