Baku. Mubariz Aslanov – APA. “We immediately express our position in case of any pressure on Azerbaijan. Anti-Azerbaijani speeches are expected to be made at the forthcoming session of the PACE. Of course, we will also express ourselves. However, today the Council of Europe is not at the level to dictate something to Azerbaijan, and it should think about its fate and future more than the processes taking place in Azerbaijan”, Head of Azerbaijani delegation to the PACE, Chairman of International and Interparliamentary Relations Committee of the Azerbaijani Parliament Samad Seyidov said in his interview to APA.

Seyidov said that the agenda of the PACE winter session doesn’t include any issue regarding Azerbaijan.

Commenting on the recent reports of imposing sanctions by the West against a number Azerbaijani law enforcement officials, Seyidov said today the world are absolutely dealing with different problems.

“The ongoing processes put Europe itself in jeopardy. Some forces and organizations want some measures to be taken against Azerbaijan. They seek to spread their views among others. In fact, Europe is extremely interested in cooperation with Azerbaijan. Because Azerbaijan is solving an issue that Europe is unable to. Europe today is in chaos as it has proved unsuccessful in building unity among Christian, Muslim, and Jewish communities. You see what is happening out there? We say to them that if they stated their position on Nagorno-Karabakh without double standards, without delay, today there would have been neither intercommunity problems in Europe nor problems in Ukraine nor any terror attacks. If the processes were appropriately assessed in time, Europe today would have turned out to be an example of unity for other countries and communities. However, processes taking place in Europe today, not make it an attractive model, but create a tendency of escaping from Europe. OSCE should think why the policy it conducted within "Eastern Partnership", the European Union and Council of Europe hasn’t given positive results so far. Hence, there is a need for a significant correction in its policy. Some internal and external forces are trying to put pressure on us. However, not Azerbaijan, but they themselves will suffer from this pressure,” he noted.

Answering the question about recent problems and mutual accusations observed between Azerbaijan and the US, Seyidov said that Azerbaijan isn’t a country that was 15 years ago.

“Azerbaijan is a powerful country, mainly meeting the interests of its people. It focuses on meeting the people's interests, despite meeting the interests of other countries. No country can prefer its own interests over the interests of the people and it can’t impose them. They must understand once and for all. We only require taking note of the interests of Azerbaijan within cooperation. They must reckon with Azerbaijan,” he added.
