Baku. Victoria Dementyeva – APA. The 10th session of NATO International School of Azerbaijan (NISA) has kicked off in Baku. APA reports that this session is dedicated to the theme "Afghanistan beyond 2014".
Gaya Mammadov, Head of International Security Department of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, spoke about Azerbaijan’s contribution to the establishment of peace and stability in Afghanistan, as well as to Istanbul process. He noted that Azerbaijan is actively cooperating and establishing dialogue with Afghanistan.
Ambassador of Romania to Azerbaijan Daniel Cristian Ciobanu stated that Afghanistan issue is important for NATO: “The Alliance highly estimates Azerbaijan’s contribution to ISAF peacekeeping contingent, transit opportunities and financial role in the development of stability. Azerbaijan is one of the first countries to declare its participation in new NATO-led mission in Afghanistan in 2014.”
According to NISA Director Huseyn Panahov, the summer session will focus on problems of Afghanistan after 2014, opportunities for future development of the region and strategies of regional and international cooperation.
The event is being attended by about 49 students and junior scientists from Azerbaijan, the United States, the United Kingdom, Afghanistan, Georgia, Spain, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Romania, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkey and Ukraine.
NISA acts as research and information center on Euro-Atlantic issues and organizes school sessions, conferences, courses, roundtables, study visits, essay competitions etc. Being an independent organization, works with students, young researchers, professors and wider public in order to increase public awareness about the Euro-Atlantic Security.
NISA organizes training sessions twice a year (winter and summer) concerning the topical questions of Euro-Atlantic Security since 2003.
The session will end on July 6.
