Brussels. Fuad Gulubeyli - APA. “No one is arrested for political views in Azerbaijan. There are no political prisoners in the country,” Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said at the briefing, following the meeting with President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso, APA’s Europe correspondent reports from Brussels. Answering the question of the journalist, President Aliyev said that none of his opponents is imprisoned: “There are no political prisoners in Azerbaijan. You can be sure of it, if you read the report of the PACE Monitoring Committee. Azerbaijan is completely honoring its obligations in the fields of human rights and democratic development. Azerbaijan is a democratic country. A variety of political parties are independently functioning in the country.”
The President noted that the election campaign had not started in the country yet, Azerbaijan would invite international observers to observe the elections.
