He said that despite the periodical internal problems in the South Caucasus, Israel considers the Caucasus direction a priority in its foreign policy. “Israel is conducting productive dialogue with all three South Caucasus countries. Especially, we have close relations with Azerbaijan. The trade turnover with Azerbaijan is about $4 billion. Strange as it may seem, this is more than the trade turnover between Israel and Russia. Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister has recently paid a historical visit to Israel. Discussions were held on a number of spheres of the bilateral relations,” he said.
Elkin also touched on the visa facilitation with the countries of the Caucasus. He said the question is to facilitate visa travel with these countries with the view of accelerating contacts and consultations on counterterrorism and security issues.
