According to the PA official, this step is related with the “spring-summer” activation of certain anti-Azerbaijani groups: “The previous slanderous resolution on our country was adopted late in May last year, during the Eurovision-2012 song contest in Baku. There is no doubt that this resolution was adopted as a result of the activities carried out by the interested groups in the European Parliament. It is enough to have a look at the list of the parliamentarians, who attended and made speeches at the discussion of the draft resolution. These are the same parliamentarians, who took an active part in the preparation and adoption of the previous resolution on Azerbaijan.”
Fuad Alasgarov mentioned the arrest of Ilgar Mammadov, who was supported by MEPs: ‘If we take into account that sessions of the European Parliament are held every month, then MEPs needed four months to understand the urgency of this issue. 32 deputies participating in the meeting considered this issue important and urgent. And that makes less than 5 percent of the MEPs. The European Parliament has 754 members. For comparison let me say that previously the discussion of such issues was attended by over 600 parliamentarians. Speaking softly, discussion process of "urgent issues" on human rights at the European Parliament is surprising. Discussion of the resolution, more precisely superficial reading of the texts prepared in advance, took less than half an hour. I remind that we speak about “urgent and important” issue. Moreover, the country, on which the resolution has been adopted, is not given a chance to present its point of view. In such a situation, there is no need to speak about objective and comprehensive approach of the European parliamentarians. There is no doubt that such haste arises from only one factor. Being aware of the consideration of Ilgar Mammadov’s case by the European Court of Human Rights, the MEPs hastened to adopt a resolution. This resolution is nothing but an attempt to put pressure on the European Court’.
