Donor conference to support Palestine kicks off in Baku - <span style="color: red;">PHOTOSESSION

Baku. Victoria Dementyeva – APA. Member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) are holding a donor conference in Baku for supporting Palestine. APA reports that the event started with recitation of the Holy Quran verses.


Delivering a keynote speech, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov welcomed the participants on behalf of President Ilham Aliyev. Foreign Minister said such conferences are important not only for the Palestinian people, but also for the whole Muslim world and noted that admission of Palestine to UNESCO is one of the important steps towards the recognition of the independence of the state.


Elmar Mammadyarov expressed his hope that Palestine will be a full member of the UN in the near future. He said that Azerbaijan has always supported Palestine and it is extremely important to improve the living conditions of the Palestinian people. He said Azerbaijan had decided to allocate funds for the development of infrastructure projects in Al-Quds.


Speaking about Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Foreign Minister said OIC always supported Azerbaijan and defended our country’s territorial integrity.


The conference is attended by the representatives of OIC countries, international organizations, including ISESCO, Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, Islamic Development Bank.


Following this, the session was continued behind closed doors.


The participants will discuss $500 million humanitarian aid to Palestine. The package of aid allocated by the OIC countries will be spent on the improvement of Palestine’s economy, healthcare and education.


Conference on the establishment of the Islamic financial security network for supporting Palestine will also be held in Baku today.
