The Embassy told APA that British Minister for International Security Strategy Andrew Murrison, Deputy Chief of the Defense Staff, Lieutenant-General James Everard, Generals and officials of the Ministry of Defense, Members of the House of Lords and Parliament, a number of ambassadors accredited in London, military attachés, members of the Azerbaijani community in this country and other guests attended the event.
Delivering a keynote speech, Ambassador Fakhraddin Gurbanov spoke about the Azerbaijani government’s care to army building. He said that Azerbaijan’s army has today turned into the most powerful army in the region as a result of the measures taken after gaining the independence.
Azerbaijan's military attaché in London, Lieutenant-Colonel Vugar Ahmadov spoke about the history of the Armed Forces, difficult army building process in the first years after independence and noted that, there is a strong army capable of ensuring the territorial integrity of the country. He noted that Armenia has occupied 20 percent of the Azerbaijani territories and 80 percent of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces is now standing in the trenches. The occupation is a serious threat to the security of the region and even beyond. However, the Azerbaijani Army has contributed to the international security and stability in the Euro-Atlantic space.
Minister Andrew Murrison congratulated Azerbaijan on Armed Forces Day on behalf of the UK and expressed satisfaction with a dynamic development in various fields between Azerbaijan and Great Britain. He recalled his visit to Azerbaijan that took place last year, highly-estimated Azerbaijan’s important contributions to the international security, its role in operations conducted by ISAF in Afghanistan and allowing to use its airspace, and thanked the Azerbaijani side.
