Azerbaijan-Georgia intergovernmental commission ends meeting in Tbilisi
Prime ministers of both countries held press conference after the intergovernmental commission’s meeting. They noted that they discussed issues of development of Azerbaijan-Georgia economic relations. Responding the journalists’ question about the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project, the Georgian Prime Minister said construction of the railway was continued currently. Mgaloblishvili said he discussed this issue with his Azerbaijani counterpart in both tete-a-tete and commission meetings. He said the project was prospective and Georgian, Turkish and Azerbaijani relevant organizations were working to carry out it.
Rasizadeh said Government of Azerbaijan focused on the railway construction and they were confident it would be completed in 2010. He said the three countries established joint monitoring group for Baku-Tblisi-Kars railway and the group would hold its meeting in middle December.
Asked whether Nabucco pipeline could pass through Armenia, Artur Rasizadeh said that the issue was not discussed, as Armenia continued to occupy Azerbaijani territories. Prime Minister said Azerbaijan would take measures to implement Nabucco project perfectly through the infrastructure gained as a transit country. Rasizadeh noted that Azerbaijan had determined its gas projects in the Nabucco project.
The delegation led by Prime Minister Artur Rasizadeh includes Industry and Energy Minister Natig Aliyev, Education Minister Misir Mardanov, Ecology and Natural Resources Minister Huseyn Bagirov, chief of State Border service Elchin Guliyev, Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov, Minister of Finance Samir Sharifov, Minister of Agriculture Ismet Abasov, Deputy Foreign Minister Vagif Sadigov, Deputy Minister of Economic Development Niyazi Safarov, chief of State Railway Department Arif Asgarov, deputy chief of State Customs Committee Rza Hasanaliyev, Director of SOCAR-Georgia Mahir Mammadov, department chief of State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic Faig Guliyev, head of Azerbaijan-Georgia Interparliamentary Friendship Group Ganira Pashayeva and others.
The meeting focused on cooperation in the field of energy, transport, customs procedures, energy delivery from Azerbaijan to Georgia in winter, increase of trade turnover between the countries.
