Iran has condemned the re-imposition of US oil sanctions on Tehran, calling it a “clear violation” of the Memorandum of Understanding reached between the two countries last month, APA reports citing CNN.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that it “holds the US government responsible for the consequences of this breach of commitment.”
“This comes as the United States, either directly or through the actions of the Israel against Lebanon, has repeatedly committed both minor and major violations of various provisions of the memorandum over the past 20 days,” the ministry said.
It added that Iran will take “any measures” it finds necessary to defend its national security.
The Iranian statement was posted as the US strikes on Iran got underway, in retaliation for attacks on cargo ships near the Strait of Hormuz.
