Terry Davis said Azerbaijan showed very good attitude inviting Armenia to the conference and added that if Armenia accepted the invitation, it would assist the solution to the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia. “The goal of this event is dialogue. Unfortunately Armenia will not participate in the dialogue because it did not accept the invitation. Armenia lost a chance to meet with us”.

Terry Davis noted that Azerbaijan played a very important role in establishing intercultural dialogue and said our country played the role of a bridge between Europe and Central Asia.
“The world needs dialogue, that’s why this conference is being held,” he said.

Touching on Nagorno Karabakh problem Terry Davis expressed his concern over the death of civilians as a result of the conflict
“I feel deep regret for the death of civilians, servicemen, Azerbaijanis and Armenians as a result of the conflict. I should say that I am pleased with the recent processes on the settlement of the conflict. This is a good beginning for the discussions,” he said.
Taking a stance on destruction of Azerbaijani cultural-historical monuments in the occupied territories Terry Davis said the monuments should not be divided for national background.
“They are our common values and we should protect them,” he said.
Terry Davis said it had not been specified when the mission assessing the state of monuments would visit the region.
