Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan sign four documents -<font color=red>UPDATED </font>

Bedimuhammedov said relations between the two countries were developed successfully and his country was interested in close cooperation with Azerbaijan. The Turkmen president said there was great potential for extension of relations in the economic, commercial, transport, energy, humanitarian and other fields. He appreciated twofold increase of trade turnover between the countries over the past ten months as a visual example of that. Berdimuhammedov emphasized that the visit of Azerbaijani president to Turkmenistan would play important role in strengthening of relations between the countries.

In his turn, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said activation and strengthening of political relations between the countries promoted extension of ties in all fields. The head of state said both countries supported positions and initiatives of each other in the international organizations and international issues.

President Aliyev said official visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan in May 2008 promoted the development of mutual relations and said he believed in further successful development of cooperation between the fraternal and friendly peoples and countries.

Following the meeting of the delegations, documents were signed between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. Azerbaijani Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov and Turkmenistan’s Minister of Railway Transport Deryagulu Mahammadguliyev signed the agreement on arranging transportation of goods on the international railway - ferry through Baku (Azerbaijan Republic) and Turkmenbashi (Turkmenistan) ports, operation of goods vans and containers, registration for numbers and account for their use.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and Turkmenistan’s Education Minister Muhammetgeldy Annaamanov signed the agreement on cooperation between Azerbaijan’s and Turkmenistan’s Education Ministries.

Azerbaijani Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov and Deputy Chairman of Turkmenistan’s Cabinet of Ministers Nazargulu Shaguliyev signed the agreement on arranging direct international railway - ferry link through Baku (Azerbaijan Republic) and Turkmenbashi (Turkmenistan) ports.

Azerbaijan’s First Deputy Prime Minister Yagub Eyyubov and Deputy Chairman of Turkmenistan’s Cabinet of Ministers Khidir Saparliyev signed the agreement on Azerbaijan-Turkmenistan intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation between Azerbaijani Government and Turkmenistan Government.
