Deputy chairman of Azerbaijani parliament: “European Parliament’s resolution is a propaganda against Azerbaijan”

This resolution was adopted in a rush meeting. A month before during the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly’s meeting the documents on human rights especially dealing with the right to freedom of speech were adopted. But one month later with the participation of only 56 of 754 the European Parliament’s members they hold an urgent meeting and adopt a resolution on human rights with just 49 votes”, said the deputy chairman of Azerbaijani parliament Valeh Alasgarov, APA reports.

Valeh Alasgarov also mentioned that on June 20-21 the cooperation committee of the Azerbaijani and European parliaments must hold a meeting. “This bilateral cooperation should include mutual respect, improvement of legislation and other items. But it’s really very strange that the European Parliament under the influence of some groups holds an urgent meeting and adopts such kind of resolution. If this decision was accepted on a combined meeting with the presence of all MPs it wouldn’t surprise us so much. That’s why we consider the adoption of such kind documents as a dirty campaign against Azerbaijan.

Chairman of the Azerbaijani Parliament’s International Relations Committee Samad Seyidov called EP’s actions as biased and ill-intentioned. He said today human rights are violated in the majority of European countries, the EU members, and among them we can find such countries where the number of appeals to the European Court of Human Rights is 7000. Despite of not being a member of EU the number of appeals in Azerbaijan is near 1000. This is a factor that shows who really live in democratic and free society: “The European Parliament’s propaganda makes us to reconsider our attitude to this organization again.”
