Baku - APA. One of the main topics of meeting of Azerbaijani and Georgian presidents was the situation on David Gareji monastery complex. APA reports quoting “Gruziya-online” that Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze said the presidents discussed partnership and friendly relations between the two countries together with the issue on David Gareji complex. According to him, President Saakashvili will hold a meeting with the Georgian members of Azerbaijan-Georgia delimitation and demarcation commission and task them to intensify the work.

“The meeting between the two presidents within NATO’s Chicago summit focused on the situation concerning David Gareji monastery complex. I would like to note that this problem is not new one and has been existing since the communistic regime. I don’t know, consciously or unconsciously, they mark the administrative border in such a way that 2% of the complex remained in Azerbaijan. The President will hold a meeting of Azerbaijan-Georgia delimitation and demarcation commission and task to intensify the work”, said Vashadze.

Members of the Georgia-based initiative group for protection of David Gareji marched from Tbilisi’s Vake Park toward the Interior Ministry’s building. APA’s Georgian bureau reports that the participants expressed attitude to the repositioning by Azerbaijani border guards in Udabno temple on May 6. They protested non-permission by Azerbaijani border guards to visit the temple, “inadequate” and “irresponsible” statements of Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Nino Kalandadze and Minister of Culture Nika Rurua and demanded their resignation.
