Initiative group for protection of David Gareji holds rally in Tbilisi demanding resignation of Nino Kalandadze and Nika Rurua

APA’s Georgian bureau reports that the participants expressed attitude to the repositioning by Azerbaijani border guards in Udabno temple on May 6. They protested non-permission by Azerbaijani border guards to visit the temple, “inadequate” and “irresponsible” statements of Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Nino Kalandadze and Minister of Culture Nika Rurua and demanded their resignation.

The demonstrators said that the David Gareji issue had to be solved till May 31 - the Memorial Day of David Gareji: “The Georgia government must publicize the stenographs of negotiations and protocols on the temple till May 31. “The society must know the transparency of delimitation and demarcation process of Georgia-Azerbaijan border. At the same time, we demand the research whether Azerbaijan has claims to Chichkhituri temple and inform the society about it”.

One of the main topics of the Chicago meeting of Azerbaijani and Georgian presidents was the situation on David Gareji monastery complex. APA reports quoting “Gruziya-online” that Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze said the presidents discussed partnership and friendly relations between the two countries alongside with the issue on David Gareji complex. According to him, Saakashvili will hold a meeting with the Georgian members of Azerbaijan-Georgia delimitation and demarcation commission after his return home and instruct them to intensify the work.
