Deputy Assistant US Secretary of State Affairs Eric Rubin: â€œAzerbaijan has a very important place in the international arenaâ€

According to Rubin the US planes carry out thousands transit flights over Azerbaijan to Afghanistan, and carry cargos from the countryâ€™s elevated roads.

â€œAzerbaijan has a very important place in the international arena. Azerbaijan was elected member of the UN Security Council. It showed its loyalty to the global security issues in the Security Council and we noted with the satisfaction the arrival of President Ilham Aliyev to the Councilâ€™s special meetingâ€ â€“ Rubin said.

Rubin said that the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict was a foreground issue for the US and added that the US leadership considers important the peaceful and just settlement of the conflict: â€œThe US intends to render a close assistance to the OSCE co-chairs and negotiations process between the parties in solution of this problem, which has been continuing for 20 years. We believe that the peace is possible and important. We believe that Azerbaijani government wants it. We can leave the inadmissible status-quo and go towards the safe future in the region by the desire and political will of the parties. The forthcoming years will be a foreground issue for usâ€.
