APA’s European bureau reports that Head of France’s delegation to PACE, Member of the French National Assembly Jean Claude Mignon will chair the organization afterwards.

According to the assembly’s statute, the new chairman will hold this post for 2 years.

62-year-old Mignon has been a member of the French National Assembly’s delegation to PACE since 1993, he led the delegation in 2002-2003 and since 2007. He is a President of the European People Party in the Assembly, a member of the French ruling National Movement Party (UMP) and is considered as one of the prestigious figures in the country. Mignon has been engaged in active politics since 1970s and has been a member of the French National Assembly since 1988. During his parliamentary activity he was a member of National Assembly’s several committees on Europe and foreign issues, he worked as a secretary general of the party for newly-democratized Central and Eastern European countries.

Mignon is a member of France-Azerbaijan parliamentary friendship group in the French National Assembly. At the same time, during his activity in the National Assembly and PACE he supported the recognition of made-up “Armenian genocide”. He signed the French National Assembly’s draft law proposal on recognition of “Armenian genocide” in 2001. Besides, during working as PACE vice-president, he was an author of written statement on recognition and condemning “Armenian genocide” in this organization.

Mignon replaced Turkish MP Mevlut Chavushoglu.
