An agreement has been reached on the extradition of Azerbaijani citizen Tugay Joshgun Huseynov to Azerbaijan following negotiations held after the Prosecutor General's Office addressed a request to the Ministry of Justice of Montenegro and submitted the documents required under international procedures, the Prosecutor General's Office told APA.
According to the information, Tugay Huseynov is accused of committing a socially dangerous act under the relevant article of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan in a criminal case being investigated by the Investigation Department of the Anti-Corruption General Directorate under the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
According to the accusation, he is suspected of fraudulently obtaining a total of 150,000 euros by deceiving the victim with the promise of assisting in admission to master's degree programs at universities located in foreign countries, abusing the victim's trust and using deception.
Based on the evidence collected in the criminal case, a decision was made to charge Tugay Huseynov as an accused person, and taking into account that he had absconded from the investigation, he was placed on the international wanted list through the National Central Bureau of Interpol in Baku.
As a result of international operational-search measures, Tugay Huseynov was identified and detained in the territory of Montenegro.
Relevant measures are currently being carried out by the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan to transfer him to Azerbaijan.
The Prosecutor General's Office continues its effective cooperation with foreign partner institutions, including Interpol, to identify and detain internationally wanted persons in the territories of foreign states and ensure their extradition to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
